Crush's Coaster

Over the last 18 months I have been working on a couple of projects for Disneyland Paris. ‘Crush Coaster’ is a new ride based on the film ‘Finding Nemo’.
A large element of the ride was built by UK Loco. UK Loco constructed a huge tunnel to represent the inside of the old submarine which has been down on the sea bed for many years. The roller coaster track will eventually run through the length of the sub. You can see one section of 7 in the workshop before any scenic work has started.
The guys at UK Loco also added all the dressing on the sub, pipes, air vents, hatches and wheels etc, we then added layers of texture over all the dressing to imitate years of moss and silt that would have built up. The painting could then start and this was all in UV (Ultraviolet) paint and has to be painted in a black light environment. A number of layers and effects were used to achieve the finished effect and it looks stunning under black light but its difficult to photograph.
We also had “Bruce” to paint who makes an appearance towards the top end of the sub as you travel up. A couple of “Angler fish”, two sea gulls and the Angels cove sign also had to be painted.
Eventually the sub was finished and shipped out to Disneyland Paris to be fitted. We made our way over there a few weeks later for touch ups and extras to be painted. Here you can see the track going up inside the Sub and also Bruce making his appearance. There is more painting to be done on the bent shards as Bruce crashes through the side.
Take a ride on Crush's Coaster to see how it all looks together!
